The Joint Venture between OCI Company Ltd (49%) and POSCO Chemical (51%) initiated the construction of a hydrogen peroxide plant at the National Industrial Complex at 42,000m2 land in OCI’s Gwangyang Plant, South Korea.
The new plant will complete construction and will start commercial operations in 2022. It will have the capacity to produce 50,000 metric tons of electronic-grade and industrial hydrogen peroxide per year. The output from the plant will be supplied to semiconductor and display manufacturers and others.
Coke oven gas (COG), a byproduct of steel-making processes is used to produce Hydrogen peroxide in the unit. The Coke oven gas will be supplied from POSCO’s Gwangyang steel plant. High purity Hydrogen Peroxide is used as a disinfectant and bleaching agent to clean semiconductors and displays.
The global hydrogen peroxide market is poised to register over 5% growth (CAGR) during the forecast period from 2020 to 2028. Such strong potential for the industry is encouraging companies across the globe to build new capacities.
