Repsol, Axens, and the French Institute of Petroleum (IFPEN) patent an innovative process that eliminates the impurities of pyrolysis oil that comes from used plastics. It allows direct and undiluted processing in existing petrochemical plants for the production of circular plastics.

The RewindTM Mix process purifies the plastics pyrolysis oils by removing impurities such as silicon, chlorine, diolefins, and metals from the plastics, supporting the process of the production of circular plastics. It also avoids the need for dilution in existing petrochemical plants.

Polyolefins from petrochemistry represent about half of the 400 Mt/y world plastic production. According to IFPEN, RewindTM Mix will be the first commercial process of the RewindTM family, and it will be followed in 2022 by RewindTM PET for the recycling of all types of PET waste.
