Royal Dutch Shell Plc is a Dutch multi-national energy corporation that is engaged in oil and natural gas production. It is a global group of energy and petrochemical companies with more than 80,000 employees in more than 70 countries.

Shell operates across the entire value chain of exploration, production, refining, and marketing of oil and natural gas, and the manufacturing and marketing of chemicals.

The company makes significant investments in power, including from low-carbon sources such as wind and solar; and new fuels for transport, such as advanced biofuels and hydrogen.

Shell operations are divided into four businesses: Upstream, Integrated Gas and Renewables and Energy Solutions (formerly New Energies), and Downstream. The Projects & Technology organization manages the delivery of Shell’s major projects and drives our research and innovation.

The Upstream organization manages the exploration for and extraction of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids. It also markets and transports oil and gas, and operates the infrastructure necessary to deliver them to market. The integrated Gas organization manages liquefied natural gas (LNG) activities and the production of gas-to-liquids (GTL) fuels and other products. It includes natural gas exploration and extraction, and the operation of the upstream and midstream infrastructure necessary to deliver gas to market. It markets and trades natural gas, LNG, crude oil, electricity, carbon-emission rights and also markets and sells LNG as a fuel for heavy-duty vehicles and marine vessels.

Renewables and Energy Solutions division is focused on finding commercial ways to meet the evolving energy needs of customers. These solutions include hydrogen, power from renewable and low-carbon sources such as wind, solar, and natural gas, and decarbonization options including nature-based solutions and carbon capture and storage. This part of Shell also develops new business models such as clean power-as-a-service, which addresses how digital technology can better help customers with their energy needs.

The Downstream organization serves more than 30 million customers at 46,000 retail service stations every day. It manages different Chemicals and Products activities as part of an integrated value chain that trades and refines crude oil and other feedstocks into a range of products that are moved and marketed around the world for domestic, industrial, and transport use. The products include conventional fuels for road, aviation, and shipping; low-carbon fuels such as biofuels, renewable natural gas (RNG), hydrogen, and electric-vehicle charging. It also produces and sells lubricants, bitumen, sulfur, and petrochemicals worldwide.
