Introduction: Based in India, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. operates as a group company that engages in the manufacturing, marketing, distributing, and supplying of petroleum and other related products.

It is a group company of Indian Oil Corporation. It offers products such as liquefied petroleum gas, motor spirit, superior kerosene, aviation turbine fuel, high speed diesel, naphtha, bitumen, lube base stocks, paraffin wax, fuel oil, hexane, and petrochemical feed stocks.

CPCL is one of the largest public refining companies in India, with one of the most complex refineries of its kind in the country, producing an array of value-added petroleum products.

Cracked LPG is basically a mixture of Propane, Propylene, Butane and Butylene, which are recovered and supplied as a feed stock to downstream Petrochemical companies. CPCL plays the role of a Mother Industry supplying feed stocks to the neighbouring industries in Manali.

CPCL undertook several projects and schemes to produce Petrol and Diesel with compliance to BS-VI grade and CPCL Manali refinery is supplying BS-VI complaint Petrol and Diesel since 1st December 2019.

In August 2020, CPCL has undertaken a project to use natural gas as an internal fuel, replacing the existing liquid material such as fuel oil and naphtha. It invested about Rs 1,850 crore in BS VI auto fuels to cater the demand in the southern parts of the country.

The existing BS-IV grade of auto fuel contains Sulphur less than 50 ppm and the forthcoming BS VI grade contains only 10 ppm Sulphur. Also, with the implementation of BS-VI grade fuel, emissions levels are expected to reduce significantly.

Lubes - CPCL produces five grades of Group-I High Viscosity Index (HVI) Lube Oil Base Stock products and two grades of Extracts (500N & BN). Various grades of Wax are produced from CPCL (Type-II, IIA, and III).
