SNF Group Company Overview
SNF Group is a privately held French specialty-chemicals company headquartered in Andrézieux, France. Founded in 1978, the group specializes in water-soluble polymers and associated monomers, with a portfolio of more than 1,100 products used for flocculation, coagulation, rheology modification, friction reduction and solids-liquid separation. Major technologies include polyacrylamide-based powders, emulsions and solutions, acrylamide and cationic monomers, organic coagulants, dispersants and application-specific specialty chemistries. SNF serves municipal and industrial water treatment, oil and gas, mining, pulp and paper, agriculture, personal care, textiles, construction and other industrial markets. The group reported €4.6 billion of turnover in 2025.
SNF's strategic positioning is unusually concentrated around polymer chemistry and water-intensive processes. Rather than diversifying broadly across commodity chemicals, it integrates monomer production, polymer manufacturing, formulation, equipment and application support around water-soluble polymer technologies. The group's business model is supported by continuous reinvestment: its 2025 disclosures state that all profit is reinvested and annual capital expenditure exceeded €500 million. This long-term investment model has supported large-scale polymer capacity alongside customer-specific laboratories and field-service capabilities, enabling SNF to address both high-volume water treatment and technically specialized mining, oilfield and industrial applications.

SNF Group Business Structure and Competitive Position
SNF does not report conventional operating segments in the manner of a listed chemical company. Instead, it manages a market-oriented portfolio built around a common water-soluble polymer technology platform. Municipal and Industrial Water Treatment together form a large portion of the business, while Oil & Gas and Mining use polymer chemistry for friction reduction, enhanced recovery, solids separation, tailings and water management. Pulp & Paper applies polymers to drainage, retention and strength, while Monomers provides critical upstream building blocks used in polymer production. Specialties extend SNF chemistry into personal care, agriculture, textiles, construction and related markets.
Competitive differentiation starts with extensive backward integration into acrylamide and cationic monomers and a global polyacrylamide manufacturing platform. SNF's U.S. operations, for example, manufacture monomers alongside powder, emulsion and solution polymers, reducing dependence on externally sourced critical intermediates. Application differentiation is added through 21 laboratories, regional technical centers and field specialists who adapt molecular weight, charge, structure and product form to customer processes. SNF's polymers can therefore be engineered around water quality, solids characteristics, reservoir conditions, fiber systems or mineralogy. This combination of upstream chemistry, manufacturing scale and application tailoring creates a more defensible position than polymer capacity alone.

Municipal Water Treatment
Municipal Water Treatment represented 25% of SNF's FY2025 revenue. The company supplies organic coagulants and flocculants for drinking-water clarification, municipal wastewater treatment, sludge thickening and dewatering. Polymer properties are selected according to suspended solids, charge characteristics and treatment configuration, making application testing important alongside manufacturing consistency. SNF states that it has developed more than 1,000 organic coagulant and flocculant variants for water-treatment applications. The business benefits from continuous treatment demand and from regional technical teams that can optimize polymer selection and dosage around individual treatment plants.
Industrial Water Treatment
Industrial Water Treatment accounted for 17% of FY2025 revenue and addresses process water, wastewater, solids separation and recycling across industrial facilities. Applications extend through chemicals, manufacturing, food processing and other industries where water quality and discharge performance affect plant economics. Polymer chemistry can improve clarification, sludge dewatering and effluent quality while supporting reduced water withdrawals. SNF's competitive model combines bulk polymer availability with laboratory testing and field support, enabling treatment programs to be adjusted as feedwater, production conditions or wastewater characteristics change.
Oil & Gas
Oil & Gas represented 25% of FY2025 revenue even before the 2026 Syensqo acquisition. SNF supplies friction reducers for hydraulic fracturing, polymers for enhanced oil recovery, drilling and cementing additives, produced-water treatment chemistry and solutions for flow assurance and asset protection. The business integrates chemistry with polymer make-down and injection equipment, commissioning and field services. This end-to-end model is particularly relevant to large EOR and stimulation programs because polymer performance depends on reservoir conditions, water salinity, pumping systems and field execution as well as chemical composition.
Pulp & Paper
Pulp & Paper accounted for 10% of FY2025 revenue. SNF polymers are used to improve retention, drainage, strength and production efficiency across paper and board manufacturing. Its portfolio includes water-soluble polymers and dispersants designed around fiber systems and mill operating conditions. SNF has also developed modular systems that manufacture selected liquid polymer solutions directly at customers' mills, reducing transportation of carrier water and shortening supply chains. This business is differentiated by close integration with paper-machine operations, where chemical changes can affect both production throughput and final sheet properties.
Mining
Mining represented 11% of FY2025 revenue and uses SNF polymers in mineral processing, thickening, tailings management and water recycling. Flocculants influence solids-liquid separation and can affect metal recovery, water reuse and the stability of tailings-management systems. Because ore mineralogy and process conditions vary by mine, polymer selection is highly application-specific. SNF's extensive molecular portfolio and field-service capabilities enable products to be screened and optimized around individual flotation, clarification or tailings circuits rather than supplied as standardized commodity formulations.
Monomers and Specialty Applications
Monomer production accounted for 4% of FY2025 revenue, while Specialties contributed another 8%. SNF manufactures important upstream building blocks including acrylamide and cationic monomers, supporting its integrated polyacrylamide platform. The specialty portfolio applies water-soluble polymer chemistry to personal care, agriculture, textiles, construction and industrial formulations, where rheology modification, dispersion, soil conditioning or process efficiency are important functions. These activities extend SNF's polymer expertise beyond its largest water, energy and mining markets without changing the group's core chemistry platform.
SNF Group Global Manufacturing and Geographic Footprint
SNF operates 23 production sites with more than 1.67 million tonnes of annual polyacrylamide capacity. Its largest manufacturing clusters are in France, the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom and South Korea, supplemented by sites in Brazil, Australia and other markets. North America represented 41% of FY2025 revenue, followed by Asia-Pacific at 25%, Europe at 20%, Latin America at 10%, and the Middle East and Africa at 4%.
The United States is anchored by Riceboro, Georgia, SNF's largest individual production site, together with Plaquemine, Louisiana and Pearlington, Mississippi. Riceboro integrates acrylamide and cationic monomer production with powder, emulsion and solution polymer manufacturing. France contains the Andrézieux headquarters and manufacturing base along with additional industrial platforms, including the newer Dunkirk NVF operation. The UK supports production at Billingham.
Asia is strategically significant through Taixing and Rudong in China, Visakhapatnam and Gandhidham in India, and Ulsan in South Korea. China has become one of SNF's largest markets and supplies municipal, industrial, oil and gas, mining and paper customers. The geographically redundant production base is especially important for polymers consumed continuously in water-treatment plants, mines and oilfields, where security of supply and rapid technical response can materially affect customer operations.
SNF Group Mergers, Acquisitions and Portfolio Transformation
SNF has accelerated expansion in oilfield chemistry and regional polymer capabilities during the past three years. In August 2024, it announced agreements to acquire PfP Industries and Ace Fluid Solutions, adding dry-on-the-fly and slurry friction-reducer technology, fluid management and Permian Basin service capabilities. In August 2025, SNF announced the acquisition of Obsidian Chemical Solutions, another Midland, Texas-based specialist, to broaden stimulation, acidizing, cementing and produced-water treatment capabilities.
The most significant completed transaction came on January 2, 2026, when SNF acquired Syensqo's Oil & Gas division for €135 million enterprise value. The acquired operation brought more than 700 products, approximately 600 employees and a manufacturing and R&D network spanning the Americas, Europe and Asia; the business had generated about €400 million of 2024 sales. This materially expands SNF beyond polymer supply into a wider oilfield chemical portfolio.
Organic investment remains equally important. SNF reported more than €500 million of capital expenditure in 2025, consistent with its policy of reinvesting cash flow into the group. Its new NVF facility in Dunkirk, developed with Mitsubishi Chemical technology, reached full ramp-up in 2025 and produces monomer for polyvinylamine derivatives used particularly in paper applications. SNF is using acquisitions to deepen application chemistry while continuing to protect its core advantage in integrated polymer manufacturing.
