Silicones
Silicones is WACKER’s largest operating division and encompasses thousands of products across silanes, siloxanes, silicone fluids, emulsions, elastomers, resins and pyrogenic silica. Applications extend from construction sealants and coatings to automotive components, electronics, thermal management, healthcare, personal care, energy and industrial processing. Wacker Chemie AG Mergers, Divestitures and Portfolio Transformation
One of WACKER’s most important recent investments is the Etching Line Next at Burghausen, commissioned in July 2025 for semiconductor-grade polysilicon. The facility represents an investment of more than €300 million, the group’s largest single investment in a decade, and is designed to increase capacity for the highest semiconductor-grade quality by more than 50% over time. The strategic significance is clear: the project directs capital toward hyperpure material for advanced logic and memory chips, including semiconductor applications associated with artificial intelligence and increasingly demanding chip architectures.
At the same time, WACKER has initiated substantial internal restructuring. The PACE program, launched in October 2025, targets more than €300 million in annual production-related and administrative cost savings and involves more than 1,500 planned job reductions worldwide, predominantly in Germany. Implementation began in 2026 and the company reported that savings were already contributing to lower operating expenses during the first quarter.
